Colin Matthews

Composer

Matthews’ statement has a power and elegance that are quite his own.

— Paul Driver, The Sunday Times

Prometheus – fragment (1989). Chorus, orchestra ad lib.

This tiny fragment of Aeschylus’ Prometheus Bound, sung in Greek, was written for the Holst Singers in January 1989.

The ocean wave moans for him,
the depths weep,
the cavernous black world of the dead mourns,
and the springs of pure flowing rivers
weep for his piteous pain
