I’ve been in Prague for the Czech première of Traces Remain with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Sakari Oramo as part of the Prague Spring Festival. The Smetana Hall is a remarkable auditorium within the prosaically named Municipal House – a name which gives no hint of its wonderful art nouveau decoration, completed in 1913. The acoustic of the hall is warm and generous – old-fashioned in the best possible sense, and the perfect venue for what was an exceptional performance.
