An exceptional Aldeburgh Festival this year, which included no less than 8 orchestral concerts and 36 world premières. The main featured composers were Anna Thorvaldsdottir and Cassandra Miller. For me one of the highlights was the concert featuring the works composed during the 2022 Composition and Performance Course, by Philip Dutton, Beatrice Ferreira (her rehearsal pictured above), Sun Keting, Marcello Palazzo, Marcus Rock and Sasha Scott. Three singers took part and the remarkable ensemble was conducted by Jonathan Berman – their performance of Birtwistle’s Cortège was unforgettable. A wonderful two weeks, enhanced by the best weather for a Festival I can remember.
